About Frews Transport

Frews Transport was founded in 1921 in Greendale, when E.H. Frew and W. McCrostie went into the haulage business with a single traction engine. Trading as McCrostie and Frew, their 10-horsepower traction engine would haul 3 or 4 two-axle wagons typically filled with bagged grain to the Norwood and Darfield railway stations for further transport to Christchurch.

Frews Transport

From humble beginnings, the business has continued to go from strength to strength and we now have quite a bit more horsepower available to us! This is just as well, as our core client base between the Rakaia River to the south and the Ashley River to the north relies on us for cost-effective, reliable and on-time transport of a wide range of products.

Frews long history of service in the central Canterbury region has given us a deep understanding of the needs of our rural client base, which is why we do more than just transport – we offer additional services including bulk grain storage, firewood log sales and shingle sales. Get in touch today and talk to us about how we can help you.
